In Untitled, Shawn Savage distills the human face into an arresting arrangement of elongated lines, graphic contrasts, and restrained color. The pale blush ground softens the composition, while black and white marks give the figure an immediate, almost totemic presence.
Created in 2022, the work reflects Savage’s intuitive, unconventional approach to portraiture. Rather than pursuing literal likeness, he uses simplification and distortion to suggest identity, mood, and character.
The presentation is inseparable from the artwork itself. Savage often acquired older framed pictures, painted over their existing compositions, and returned his new works to the original frames. Here, the vintage ornamental frame introduces age, texture, and history around the contemporary image.

About the Artist
Shawn Savage was a multidisciplinary artist, photographer, author, and creative presence closely associated with the visual culture of Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley.
After relocating to the region in 2003, Savage developed a devoted following among collectors and interior designers. His paintings appeared in film and television productions and entered notable hospitality and private collections, including the San Giorgio Hotel, The Biltmore, The Morrison, and the Liberace and Jack Webb estates. His murals can also be found throughout the desert, including works created for the West Elm House 2018.
Beyond his artistic practice, Savage was a passionate animal advocate and longtime supporter of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, regularly contributing artwork to its fundraising auctions.
Savage passed away in June 2024, leaving a distinctive body of work and an enduring presence within the Palm Springs creative community.
